The cove is a rather new spot for surf and skimboarding it became a spot once the beach replenishment was started. The replenishment would stop at the southernmost jetty and the currents would start to rip around the jetty and form a cove that was just right during certain swells. It is also a popular spot for the ESA (Eastern Surfing Association) to hold its contests for the Cape May district.
